Last Thursday November 7, 2013, the speaker of our Science Seminar was Prof. Ignacio Cirac, Director of the Theory Division at the Max-Planck Institute for Quantum Optics. He is one of the pioneers of the field of quantum computing and quantum information theory; and recipient of multiple awards such as the Prince of Asturias Award (2006), the Benjamin Franklin Medal (2010), and the Wolf Prize in Physics (2013). Prof. Cirac explained his trajectory and talked about his research and the quantum computing field. He also shared his vision on the importance of investing in basic and applied research. A breakfast was served during the seminar.
