Industry Series: Román Blanco, Santander US

When: Tuesday February 11, 2014 Where: E62-223 Sponsors: Spain@MIT, GSC Funding Board   Last Tuesday February 11, 2014, the speaker of our Industry Seminar was Román Blanco, President and CEO of Santander US. In this role, he leads all of the Santander Group’s businesses in the United States. He joined Santander in 2004 as Director of Business Development for the America’s division. He was later named Vice President of Santander Brazil. From 2007 to 2012, Román was country head for Santander in Colombia. From 2012 until July, 2013, he led Santander’s business in Puerto Rico. Román talked about his trajectory prior to joining Santander Group. He worked for 13 years with the consulting firm McKinsey & Company, where he was a Senior Partner for multiple client engagements and financial sector projects. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Cantabria in Spain and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. Román also presented some key numbers about Santander Group, Santander US, and Santander US plans for the future. Pastry and coffee were served during the seminar.
