Juncal Arbelaiz

I am Juncal Arbelaiz, and along with Álvaro, I am a Co-President of Spain@MIT during the 2019-2020 academic year. In addition to guaranteeing the smooth functioning of Spain@MIT and promoting our culture on campus, I am particularly motivated to create a deeper relationship with the Spanish universities, companies and foundations.

On the personal side, I am originally from the Basque Country and a third-year PhD candidate in Applied Mathematics. My research interest is the design of scalable algorithms for optimization-based control of high-dimensional and distributed dynamic systems. Before coming to MIT, I obtained my B. S. and M. S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Navarra (UNAV). I am also part of the executive board of GW@MIT and I am committed to breaking down the barriers to entry which women encounter in STEM fields.
