Álvaro Fernández

My name is Álvaro Fernández and along with Juncal Arbelaiz I am the Co-President of Spain@MIT for the academic year 2019-2020. I will do my best to keep the legacy of my predecessors organizing the events for the MIT community. In addition, I will make an effort to strengthen the relationship of our organization with the academic and industrial world of our country.

I am currently a third year MechE PhD student doing my research in the LIGO laboratory at MIT. My research is mainly focused on the design on optical devices that enhance some quantum-mechanical properties of lasers. Prior to MIT, I received a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical (Industrial) Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), as well as a M.S. in aerospace engineering from ISAE-Supaero in Toulouse, France.
